有创造力的感觉比甚么都更让人觉得“人生是值得活下去的”。跟这种生活态度恰恰相反的，则是对外在现实百依百顺的顺从关系，在这种关系里，我们必须努力融入或费力去适应外界的大小适宜。因此，对个人来说，对现实的逆来顺受，有种白忙一场的味道，而且还带着一种消极的想法，仿佛一切都无所谓，人生也不值得活。
首先，小孩只有在某人在场时才独处。
我请大家接受、容许、并尊重这种自相矛盾，而且不要去解决它。虽然，逃入冷静理性的分析，或许有可能解决这个自相矛盾，但付出的代价却是失去自相矛盾本身的价值。
我们尤须牢记一个事实，那就是我们永远都不会有足够的心理治疗师可以去治疗那些需要治疗的人。
……其他人因为过于固守客观理解的现实，以至跟主观世界脱节，无法用有创造力的方法来应付事实。所以他们其实也生病了，差别只在于他们生病的理由，跟精神分裂的人恰好相反。
每次想到只因为我自己需要做诠释，就阻止或延后了某类型病人多少可能获得的深刻改变，我就感到不寒而栗。假如我们可以等待，病人就可以亲自体会这份理解，既感到自己创造力十足，又满心喜悦。过去我以自己比别人聪明为乐，现在我更享受这份等待的喜悦。我想，我做诠释主要是为了让病人明白，原来我的理解也是有个限度的。
